Something exciting is happening inside the Galesburg Public Library — and it’s sparking creativity across the community!
Thanks to the support of the 100 Extraordinary Women Campaign and ongoing contributions to the Galesburg Public Library Foundation, the Skills Lab has become one of the most dynamic, hands-on spaces in the library. It’s where curiosity turns into creation — and where people of all ages are learning, experimenting, and gaining confidence through hands-on experiences.
What You’ll Find Inside
Step into the Skills Lab and you’ll discover a space designed for exploration. Try your hand at:
Hydroponics — grow fresh veggies right inside the library
Circuitry and Robotics — build, code, and test your creations
Sewing and Embroidery Machines
CPR training kits available for checkout
Cricut machine, sublimation printer, and heat press for custom designs
Knitting, crochet, and bike repair tools for hands-on learning
The Skills Lab isn’t just a room full of equipment — it’s a place where ideas take shape and creativity connects people.
Programs That Bring Learning to Life
The library has already hosted several successful events, including:
Hands-on CPR Classes and Certification
Cooking Classes for both adults and kids
Craft & Chat, a fun and social space for creative connection
Coming Up This Month
Sewing Machine Overview – October 15
Craft & Chat – October 21
And don’t miss out on new opportunities to get involved:
Community Quilt Project – design a square and help create a collaborative artwork that celebrates Galesburg’s creativity.
DIY Totes, Tea Towels & Pencil Bags – personalize your own design using sublimation printing (just $5 for totes/towels, $3 for pencil cases).
See It in Action!
The Galesburg Chamber of Commerce recently featured the Skills Lab in their Try It Tuesday video series!
Pam and Natalie stopped by to explore the lab, test out some of the equipment, and create their own quilt square in honor of the library’s 126th birthday.
