For most of his career, Evan Massey spent his time looking forward.
As a teacher and coach, his focus was on helping students grow, preparing for the next game, and building for the future. Retirement, however, opened the door to something unexpected: looking back.
Today, many people know Evan through the historical articles and community stories he shares online and through local media. What began as a personal interest has become a way of helping preserve pieces of Galesburg's history that might otherwise be forgotten.
And much of that journey begins inside the Galesburg Public Library.

"It's kind of neat," he said, reflecting on the process of exploring those historical records.
More than once, a project has led him down an entirely unexpected path, uncovering stories he never intended to find but couldn't wait to share.
